Le Grand Chai Margaux
Cab. Sauvignon, Merlot • Margaux AOC
Thanks to excellent contacts, our winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua obtained a fine parcel of Margaux – the most elegant and fragrant of Bordeaux’s great wines – from an estate next to some of the region’s most famous names.
Decanter has described Le Chai au Quai as “a fabulous venture” on the banks of the Dordogne in Castillon. It's here that our very own, Haut-Brion trained, Jean-Marc Sauboua and his team hand finish special parcels of wine selected from top vineyards. 2012 is a particularly impressive wine thanks to a top négociant pulling out of a deal, leaving this outstanding vat ready for the taking. It’s from a property between Lascombes and Margaux, so in a prime position. He aged it in top Seguin Moreau barrels (as used by Château Margaux). Le Grand Chai 2012 has pretty red fruit aromas with hints of cedar and flowers. Lovely now, if you decant it for a couple of hours, and with a long life ahead. Reserve for your best friends and fine red meat dishes.
