Les Dents de Lion

Gewurztraminer • Languedoc

A terrific new release from Le Chai au Quai. It uses the exotically spiced and enticingly aromatic Gewurztraminer grape, picked from two premium, cool-climate vineyards in the Languedoc. Spiced lychees and ripe apricot fruit with a minerally bite.

The Le Chai team saves the Les Dents de Lion label for their particularly aromatic wines, here featuring the most deliciously scented of them all, Gewurztraminer. There's very little of it grown in the Languedoc, but Mark Hoddy had an inkling of where to go to find grapes which had exotic, ripe fruit, yet also an essence of freshness to lend balance to the wine. One parcel was from the high, ocean-influenced hills of Limoux, while the other was from next door to the 'First Growth' Domaine Gassac estate. All cool fermented with not a breath of oak, this highly scented white is all about fruit - lychee, apricot with a spicy overlay and an underlying minerally zip. It's a delightful glass on its own, as well as making a perfect partner to spicy noodle stir-fry.

Classic Gewurz with lychee and apricot aromas. Mouthfilling texture with spicy exotic fruit and a bite of freshness.
