Ok, so it’s a beautiful grand cellar on a magical spot on the banks of the Dordogne, but what else is so special about Le Chai au Quai? Let’s be clear – this is no ordinary cellar, churning out wines.
Every wine from here is a little masterpiece, handcrafted from tiny parcels of amazing grapes that the team searches out. There are no strict rules to follow – we are happy to give our winemakers the freedom to make the wines how they want in the pursuit of excellence and perfection.
Le Chai au Quai serves as a workshop for tiny production 'specials'. Here Bordeaux-born, Haut-Brion-trained Jean-Marc Sauboua, his second in command Mark Hoddy and the talented team push forward the frontiers of winemaking and challenge age-old traditions. They are happy to break the sacred appellation rules, thereby sacrificing a fancy name on the label in favour of capturing outstanding 'Grand Cru' flavour in the bottle.
