Château Le Coin Rouge
Merlot, Cab. Sauvignon, Cab. Franc • Bordeaux AOC
If you've ever thought clarets were too austere, this wine will convert you. Ripe, velvety and fruit forward, it's a very moreish Bordeaux from the family property of top viticulteur Ludovic Roussillon, brimming with creamy plum and cassis fruit.
As you would expect with Bordeaux-born Jean-Marc as chief winemaker and with our cellar at the centre of the appellation, we've plenty of friends in Bordeaux, not least the superb viticulturalist Ludovic Roussillon. His Château Le Coin lies just across the river from Le Chai au Quai, in the Entre-Deux-Mers, with superb soils, rich in limestone and quick draining, which concentrates the flavours of the grapes. Ludovic is great to work with and very generous - he even lets our own Bordeaux specialist Jean-Marc Sauboua pick out the best vats and supervise the finishing of the wine. Made mostly from prime Merlot, this classy Bordeaux, with many Golds to its name, is perfect with roast shoulder of lamb or venison.
Ripe plum with notes of tobacco and spice. Smooth and silky on the palate with juicy damson fruit and hints of spicy oak.
