Château Le Coin Rosé
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon • Bordeaux AOC
For delicious, crisp berry rosé, this pink – a regular Gold medal winner – is one of the best. It uses the superb grapes from Ludovic Roussillon's family estate, which lies on one of the best spots in the Entre-Deux-Mers. Zesty citrus and strawberry fruit, it's a real delight – and very pretty in pink.
The Le Chai team has been working with Ludovic Roussillon at Château Le Coin for a few years now. For starters, he is an ace viticulturalist and it shows in the outstanding quality of his grapes. On top of that, they love his enthusiastic, open-minded approach in the cellar, so it makes a great partnership. Ludovic's vineyards all lie on limestone slopes, very similar to those of Saint-Émilion across the river and ideal for producing concentrated grapes. Add to this Ludovic's outstanding skills in the vineyard and you can see why the the wines taste so good. We have introduced you to the Gold-medal-winning claret and the Sauvignon Gris Blanc, but only recently have we created a rosé in the family. Like Ludovic's claret, it's made mostly from Merlot with a little top up from Cabernet Sauvignon. But unlike the red wine, the juice is taken off the skins after just a few hours to lend a pale pink hue. Cool fermented to capture all the lively fruit (summer berry notes from the Merlot and leafier cassis from the Cabernet) and freshness, this is a delightful wine, very moreish solo, great with white meats, and versatile with vegetarian dishes - kebabs, terrine, pilaf - or seafood. How useful and delicious is that!
Really bright summer berry notes with a leafy edge and stony lemon crispness; owerwhelmingly refreshing!
