This young claret epitomises the winemaking philosophy of the team at Le Chai au Quai. The aim: to produce a delicious, ready-to-drink, fruit-forward claret at a very reasonable price. And we think Jean-Marc Sauboua has hit it right on target.


The irony is that the wine isn't ordinary Bordeaux at all, as its label suggests – nearly all the grapes come from a trio of parcels grown in the superior Côtes de Bourg. That would account for the lovely depth of dense, chocolaty plum and redcurrant fruit with a lovely creamy roundness, courtesy of nine months finishing in top-quality Taransaud oak barrels.


Deliciously forward and fruity, Le Grand Chai Bordeaux shows just how moreish young claret can be. So moreish in fact, the Le Chai team think it's the ideal luncheon claret, so we'd better keep an eye on stock levels! It's no stranger to Gold medals either. Serve with chicken or pork casseroles, ploughman's lunch or cold meats.
